The Franklin County Planning and Building Department strives to assure quality in the construction and landBuilders shaking hands development process by effective administration of a multitude of local, state, and federal building and land use codes. The Planning and Building Department is guided by and committed to excellent public participation, customer service, and helping attain the highest possible quality of life for all Franklin County citizens.

The primary responsibilities of the Planning and Building Department are the administration of construction permitting and inspection, land use permitting and long range planning, code enforcement, business registration, outdoor burning regulations and the implementation of local fire codes. The Department is also responsible for undertaking special projects assigned by the Board of County Commissioners and the County Administrator.

The Franklin County Planning and Building Department provides professional support to the Franklin County Planning Commission, the Board of County Commissioners and the County Administrator.

Planning Commission Vacancy

Franklin County is seeking letters of interest (applications) for two (2) vacancies on the Franklin County Planning Commission. 

One vacancy is located in the Connell/Kahlotus Planning District Area. Generally, the area is east of Highway 17, involves the unincorporated area around the Cities of Connell and Kahlotus, north of Pepiot Road and north of PH 15. (This is a very general description). People who live within the Unincorporated Area of Franklin County and within this Planning District are encouraged to apply. 

One vacancy is located in the Riverview/Pasco Urban Growth Area (UGA). This District is generally located north of the City of Pasco, west of Highway 395, and south of Sagemoor Road. This area also includes the West Pasco/Riverview area of Unincorporated Franklin County. People who live within the Unincorporated Area of Franklin County and within this Planning District are encouraged to apply.

The Franklin County Planning Commission is a seven (7) member, non-paid, voluntary board that meets once a month in the evenings. The Commission makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on land development applications, ordinance/code updates, and other land use related issues.
