Marriage Licenses

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Franklin County wants to make obtaining your marriage license quick and easy. 


Application Requirements 

  • Marriage applications must be completed online to obtain your application number.  This number will appear on the next screen once you click submit. Please retain that number. If you do not have access to a computer, we have a computer in our office. 

  • All fields in the online application are required and should be the most accurate information you know to be true. If you do not know the information, you may type in N/A.

  • Both applicants need to be present and have identification that includes a picture and a birthdate.  
  • If it is not possible for one or both applicants to complete the process in our office, please complete the Marriage Affidavit or contact our office. 

  • Both applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

  • The marriage ceremony must take place in Washington State to be valid.


Fees

HB 1498 increases the cost of a marriage license by $100, effective July 27, 2025. This additional fee will go towards funding a new Domestic Violence Co-Responder Grant Program. This program allows local governments to apply for grants aimed at funding trained professionals (social workers) who will respond to domestic violence calls alongside law enforcement.

  • Marriage License is $159.00. 
  • Acceptable payments can be cash, money order, cashier’s check, credit/debit card. 
  • If using a Credit or Debit Card, a 2.7% fee will be added to the total amount. 
  • We do not accept personal checks for the purchase of a marriage license. 

Waiting Period and Ceremony

  • The 3-day waiting period does not begin until after the purchase of the marriage license and cannot be waived.
  • The Marriage License is valid for 60 days.

  • Franklin county district court does have a Judge that performs ceremonies. Please call 509-545-3597, leave your name and number and they will return your call within 3-4 business days.
